Special Features

  • Mixes basic crochet stitches with faux fur yarn for a unique soft finish.
  • Customizable in size and color, ideal for creative expression.
  • Lightweight yet fluffy—wear it for comfort without the heaviness of typical vests.

Skill Level

Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate. If you know basic crochet stitches (chain, double crochet, single crochet), you’ll enjoy this project. The furry yarn may be a new texture to try, but the pattern is straightforward.

Tutor's Suggestions

  • Subtract about 12 cm from your bust measurement for the best fit.
  • Mix and match base and fur yarn colors to match your wardrobe or style.
  • Take your time with sewing and finishing for a neatly assembled vest.

Uses

Wear this vest as a statement piece on cool evenings, for casual outings, or as a thoughtful handmade gift.

Materials

  • Charme yarn, Color 3182 (base) – 1 skein
  • Insano/Insane faux fur yarn by Círculo, Color 6549 (furry texture) – 3 skeins for size M (4–5 for size L)
  • 3 mm crochet hook for Charme yarn
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook for faux fur yarn
  • Tapestry needle for seaming and finishing
  • Measuring tape
  • Stitch markers or contrasting thread for marking sections

Instructions

Step 1: Measure and Chain the Foundation

  1. Measure your bust circumference and subtract 12 cm. This will be the starting width of your vest.
  2. With the 3 mm crochet hook and Charme yarn, chain enough stitches to reach the adjusted width (approx. 80 cm for M).
  3. For reference: 80 cm = about 173 chains.Crochet Fluffy Vest

Step 2: Create the Base Mesh*

  1. Begin the first mesh row: Skip 7 chains, in the 8th chain, work a double crochet.
  2. Chain 2, skip 2 chains, double crochet in the next. Repeat across.
  3. This forms a mesh or “screen” stitch base. Work straight in mesh stitch until you reach 35 cm in height.

Step 3: Divide For Front and Back Panels

  1. Mark the back panel (half the total width) and both front panels (split the remaining half in two).
  2. For armhole openings, skip one “mesh square” (approx. 1.5 cm) at the start/end of each front panel.Crochet Fluffy Vest

Step 4: Shape the Back

  1. Attach yarn at the back panel marking.
  2. Work straight in mesh stitch, but at each armhole edge, eliminate the 2 turning chains for two rows to shape the armhole.
  3. Continue straight (no more decreases) until back measures 19 cm from division (or your preferred armhole depth).
  4. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Step 5: Shape the Fronts

  1. Attach yarn to the front section at the armhole side.
  2. For the first two rows, decrease on the armhole edge by skipping the 2 chain spaces as done on the back.
  3. Work straight until reaching the neckline edge.
  4. Begin decreasing at the neckline edge in the same way for two rows (eliminate 2 chain spaces).
  5. Continue straight until the front matches the back in height.
  6. Fasten off, leaving a tail for joining.Crochet Fluffy Vest

Step 6: Assemble the Shoulders

  1. Align both front panels and back, matching mesh squares.
  2. Use a tapestry needle and the leftover yarn tail to seam 9 mesh squares together at each shoulder.
  3. Repeat for the other side.

Step 7: Add the Faux Fur Texture

  1. With a 3.5 mm hook, join Insano faux fur yarn at the bottom edge.
  2. Work 3 single crochets in each mesh space across the row.
  3. At the end, turn and repeat up the body, filling each mesh space.
  4. For the armhole and neck openings, work 2 single crochets per row edge.
  5. Fill all areas except the bottom hem (already filled). Focus on all side seams and the front/neck opening for a uniform look.Crochet Fluffy Vest

Step 8: Finish and Hide Ends

  1. Use your tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends, hiding them securely within stitches or under fluffy yarn.
  2. Try on your vest and adjust seams if needed.Crochet Fluffy Vest

Conclusion

Congratulations! You’ve crafted a stunning and cozy faux fur vest, blending simple crochet with statement texture. Enjoy wearing it, gifting it, or flaunting it in your next photoshoot!

Helpful Tip

To make sewing easier and less visible, use the tapestry needle to only catch the outside loops of chain edges on both pieces—this creates a nearly invisible seam that blends especially well with fluffy yarn.
