- First Double Crochet: Double crochet into the base of the chain 3.
- Double Crochet Again: Double crochet in the next 4 stitches.
- Decreases Over Row 1: Perform dc2tog over the next 2 stitches. The first decrease goes over a double crochet and the next stitch which is a dc2tog from the row below. Then perform another dc2tog.
- Middle Section: Double crochet in the next 4 stitches, then increase in the next stitch by making 2 double crochets in the same stitch and again in the following stitch.
- Repeat Pattern for Row: Continue the established repeat pattern by working 4 double crochets, the decreases, and the increases as established in the previous section until you reach the end of the row.
- Final Stitches: In the last 5 stitches, work a double crochet into each of the next 4 stitches, then finish with 2 double crochets in the final stitch.
You will repeat Row 2 for the rest of the pattern.
Color Change Instructions
- To change color at the end of a row, start your final double crochet as usual, but before completing the stitch, yarn over with the new color and pull through to complete the stitch.
- Chain 3 with the new color to start the next row.
Additional Tips for the Pattern
- If only doing a couple of rows in a color, you can carry the old color up the side, but any more than that, and it's recommended to cut the old color and add it back when needed, to avoid long carries, unless you plan on a border to conceal them.
Making the Mocha Ripple Afghan
- For the blanket, the instructor used a 5.5mm hook and Lion Brand's "Skein Tones."
- With the starting chain of 157, follow the same pattern, changing colors after every two rows, creating a gradient effect from the deepest to the lightest color.
Finishing
- Continue the sequence as per your desired size.
- No border was added to the finished product in the video, but you can add one if you prefer.
