Pattern Instructions
1. The Central Strip (22 Segments)
The central strip defines the maximum length of your shawl.
-
Foundation: Ch 138.
-
Base Loop: Sk 11 ch, Sl st into the 12th ch. Ch 6, sk 5 ch, Sl st in 6th ch. Repeat until the end.
-
Petal Row: In each Ch-6 space, work: 1 Sc, 1 Hdc, 2 Dc, Ch 3, 2 Dc, 1 Hdc, 1 Sc. Repeat for all 22 segments. Fasten off.

2. Side Strips (Triangular Shaping)
You will work strips for the left side and right side, decreasing the foundation by 6 chains for each subsequent strip.
-
Strip 2: Ch 132 (21 segments).
-
Strip 3: Ch 126 (20 segments).
-
Continue: Keep reducing by 6 chains until you reach a final strip of 5 segments.

3. Joining the Strips
Join the strips as you work the second side of the petals to save time:
-
Work one side of the new (shorter) strip normally.
-
On the second side, work half the petal: 1 Sc, 1 Hdc, 2 Dc, Ch 1.
-
The Join: Sl st into the corresponding Ch-3 space of the previous strip. Ch 1.
-
Finish the petal: 2 Dc, 1 Hdc, 1 Sc.
-
Alignment: Always align the strips at the top edge (the straight neckline). The “decrease” (the missing segment) will naturally happen at the bottom, creating the triangle point.

4. Top Edge Finishing (Neckline)
To stabilize the top of the shawl:
-
Join yarn at the top corner.
-
Work 3 Sc into the turning chain space of a strip.
-
Ch 7, then 3 Sc into the junction where two strips meet.
-
Repeat across the entire top length. Fasten off.
5. Fringe Application
-
Wrap yarn around the 20 cm cardboard and cut at one end to create 40 cm strands.
-
Group 3 strands together and fold them in half.
-
Insert hook into the Ch-3 space at the tip of each bottom segment (the “beaks”).
-
Pull the loop through, then pull the ends through the loop to tighten.
-
Trim edges slightly for a clean look.
