Making Your Mini Yip Yip Crochet Pouch

Materials:

  • G (4 mm) crochet hook
  • H (5 mm) crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn (Size 5 yarn for a bigger pouch)
  • Accent color yarn (for fringe)
  • White yarn (for eyes)
  • 10 mm safety eyes
  • Stitch marker or yarn piece
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Step by step Pattern

Pouch Body:

  1. With H hook, create a magic ring.
  2. Chain 1 to secure the magic ring.
  3. Round 1: Make 6 single crochets into the magic ring. (6 stitches)
  4. Round 2: Increase (2 single crochets into each stitch) around. (12 stitches)
  5. Round 3: 1 single crochet, increase; repeat [ ] around. (18 stitches)
  6. Round 4: 2 single crochets, increase; repeat [ ] around. (24 stitches)
  7. Round 5 (Back Loop Only): Single crochet into the back loop only for all 24 stitches. This creates a ridge for attaching the fringe.
  8. Rounds 6-13: Single crochet in each stitch around for 8 rounds. (192 stitches total)
  9. Place a stitch marker to mark the end of your last round. Do 18 more single crochets past the marker as you will now build the pouch's face in rows.

Pouch Face:

  1. Row 1: Chain 1, turn work, and make 18 single crochets back across those stitches.
  2. Row 2 (Decrease Row): Decrease over the next two stitches, 6 single crochets. Repeat [ ] once more. Then, chain 1 and turn in your work.
  3. Row 3 (Decrease Row): Decrease, 4 single crochets, decrease, 5 single crochets, decrease. Chain 1 and turn.
  4. Continue decreasing as established until you have 3 stitches left, then pull through all for a single crochet decrease (SC3tog).
  5. Finish the mouth of the Yip Yip by single crocheting around the shape, placing one single crochet in each row end to the top.

Hanging Loop:

  1. From the top, chain a length suitable for your hanging needs (20-30 chains suggested).
  2. Slip stitch on the opposite side to create the loop.

Eyes (Make Two with G Hook):

  1. Create a magic ring with white yarn.
  2. Round 1: 6 single crochets in a magic ring.
  3. Round 2: 1 single crochet, increase; repeat [ ] around (9 stitches).
  4. Round 3: Single crochet around for 9 stitches.
  5. Place safety eye into the center of the circle and secure with the back.
  6. Close the magic ring tightly.
  7. Decrease the stitches to close up around the safety eye. Finish off and leave a tail for attaching the eye to the body.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the eyes onto the body of the pouch, making sure they are even.
  2. Weave in all ends.

Fringe (24 pieces):

  1. Cut 12 pieces of yarn in white and 12 in your accent color, each about 6 inches long.
  2. Attach the fringe to the front loop you left unworked in Round 5, alternating colors.

After these steps, your Mini Yip Yip Crochet Pouch should be complete! Attach to a hook and enjoy your fun, new creation.
