Nutella Puff Pastry Christmas Tree Recipe
Ingredients:
- Puff Pastry: Available in the freezer section of your grocery store.
- Nutella Hazelnut Spread: Be careful not to spread too much so it doesn't seep out when you slice and twist the branches.
- Egg: To brush on right before baking for a golden color.
- Powdered Sugar: For sprinkling on top after baking.
Instructions:
Step 1:
Lightly flour a sheet of parchment paper. Unfold one sheet of puff pastry directly on it, then gently roll it out with a rolling pin to a large 11 x 13 inch rectangle. Carefully lift the parchment paper with the rolled dough and transfer it to a baking sheet.
Step 2:
Spread a generous layer of Nutella hazelnut spread across the puff pastry sheet, keeping a slight margin around the edges.
Step 3:
Take the second sheet of puff pastry and unfold it onto a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, gently roll it out until it also forms an 11 x 13 inch rectangle.
Step 4:
Carefully lift the second sheet of rolled puff pastry and place it directly on top of the Nutella-covered sheet. Gently press down along the edges and surface to seal the two layers of pastry together.
Step 5:
Using a template, cut a festive tree shape from the puff pastry. Don’t discard the scraps - they can be used to make stars and a tree trunk. Lightly score a center line down the tree with a ruler. Create the branches by making shallow cuts along both sides, stopping before the center line.
Step 6:
Starting at the bottom of the tree, gently twist each branch away from you, pressing the edge into the parchment paper to secure the twist. Continue twisting all the branches, working your way up both sides of the tree. Use leftover dough to cut out a decorative star for the treetop and a small piece to form the stump.
Step 7:
Brush the entire pastry with the beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake in your preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Let it cool slightly, then sprinkle with powdered sugar for a festive touch.
Serving:
Gently slide the Christmas tree pastry off the parchment paper and onto a serving platter. It’s designed to be a tear-and-share treat, so invite everyone to pull a branch off and enjoy!
This delightful treat is perfect for a festive breakfast or a holiday party centerpiece. Enjoy baking and sharing this delicious pastry!
