Layered Cream Cheese And Salsa Dip Recipe
Ingredients
- 8 oz brick-style cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 ½ teaspoons taco seasoning
- 1 ½ cups thick salsa
- 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
Instructions
Cream Cheese and Sour Cream Layer
- In a medium-sized bowl, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning.
- Using a handheld electric mixer, beat the ingredients together until smooth and uniform, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture into an even layer at the bottom of a 9" round or square baking dish.
- If your cream cheese was very soft, you might want to refrigerate this layer for 30 minutes before adding the salsa. Otherwise, proceed with the next layer.
Adding the Salsa Layer
- If your salsa is thin and liquidy, strain it through a strainer over a bowl to remove excess liquid.
- Spread the drained or chunky salsa in an even layer on top of the cream cheese and sour cream layer.
Finalizing the Dip
- Top the salsa with shredded cheese, spreading it out evenly.
- The dip can be served immediately or refrigerated for 30 minutes before serving for the best results.
Notes
- Draining Salsa: If your salsa has a lot of liquid, it's best to drain it to avoid the dip becoming too watery.
- Making Ahead: You can prepare all layers of the dip and then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap to store in the fridge for up to 8 hours. For longer storage, prepare just the cream cheese and sour cream layer, refrigerate, and add the salsa and cheese just before serving.
- Baked Option: For a baked cream cheese salsa dip, assemble in an oven-safe dish and bake at 375ºF for 25-35 minutes, until bubbly and hot. Optionally broil for 1-2 minutes for an extra bubbly top.
- Adding Ground Beef: Brown half a pound of lean ground beef with 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning, drain any fat and add this layer on top of the salsa layer then top with cheese. This can be served as a cold dip or baked as instructed above for a hot dip.
